Meet Hunter Powell

Senior Benefits Plus
Leading with Legacy

Hunter hails from Springfield, Missouri, but he’s been rooted in Kansas City for the past five years. At the core of everything he does are the people who matter most—his wife, kids, and family. But beyond his household, Hunter is quick to recognize those who’ve poured into him—mentors like his father Shawn Powell, Brian Askins, Brian Stepan, and the crew at The Retirement Team. “I deeply appreciate all the great mentors in my life,” he shares, and it’s clear that their influence has helped shape the way he now leads.

While insurance wasn’t his original plan—he once dreamed of becoming a banker—Hunter’s detour into this industry became “the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” He entered the field in 2019, joining Secure Insurance Group, and eventually found his home with Lasting Mark. What drew him in and keeps him inspired? The culture. “Things are meant to be broken and battle-tested, and we are a wonderful example of that,” he says. “I love the creative environment where you are allowed to put in your own opinions and where you are actually heard.”

At Lasting Mark, we don’t just equip our agents with resources—we pour into them with mentorship and family-like support. For Hunter, that’s been the difference. “The best mentorship out there. We’re a big ol’ family.”

But Hunter isn’t just building a business—he’s building a legacy. One of fierce determination and lifted others. He explains, “I want to be known as one of the best there has ever been in this business. I’m a competitive person, and I love to pull that competitive spirit out of my agents and colleagues.” His mission? To inspire others to “leave it all out there each day, and never have any regrets or be left wondering, ‘could I have done more?’”

When asked, “What does financial freedom and flexibility mean to you, and how has it changed your life?”, Hunter responded with, “Being able to know that my family is taken care of no matter the situation. If you give this business your all for 5-7 years, the possibilities are endless.”

For those wondering if they’re cut out for this business, Hunter offers the kind of advice that can only come from experience: “Jump. Head first. Fail fast. Get up. And keep going.”

Resiliency, grit, and a willingness to grow are at the heart of his success. “You must work in the business before working on your business.”

Perhaps one of the most touching reflections Hunter shared was his favorite Lasting Mark memory—and it wasn’t even about himself.

“My most proud achievement is not my own accolades. I am most proud of when Samuel Pretz won rookie of the year. That proved two things. 1. Skills are transferable. 2. Hard work can get you anywhere. All credit goes to Sam.”

That’s who Hunter Powell is—an agent, a mentor, and a man committed to leaving a lasting mark on everyone he encounters.
